Hi there!
Are you a member of the LGBTIQA+ community? Are you super passionate about a particular theme / topic / experience? Are you excited by the thought of writing about it and sharing it with your fellow queers?
Then we want to hear from you!
We’re looking for submissions from LGBTIQA+ writers of all experience levels on a broad range of topics. If you’re keen to write for us, send us a pitch!
Where will your writing be featured?

So what is Queer Town? We’re a tech platform dropping ‘digital content packages’ throughout the year, packed with LGBTIQA+ media, including videos, films, podcasts, writing and artwork.

If your submission is successful it will be included in one of these digital packages, which are distributed to Queer Town’s subscribers throughout Australia and beyond.

Our audience is made up of a diverse cross-section of ages, backgrounds and identities within the LGBTIQA+ community, as well as allies.
What types of content are we looking for?

We’re seeking a broad range of written submissions, including non-fiction, fiction, poetry, essays, short story and more.

Writing Guidelines:
Tone / Style / Vibe of our written content:

Conversational.

Written from lived experience in first-person where possible.

Captivating.

Entertaining where appropriate.

Anecdotal, personal.

Authentic.

Creative (fictional content welcome).

Clear purpose and conclusion.
Queer Town’s readers:

LGBTIQA+ individuals and allies living in Australia (broad range of ages and backgrounds).
Deal-breakers:

Reinforcing negative stereotypes.

Identity-shaming.
-
Cultural appropriation.
Submission Details:
Pitching your idea:

Send us a paragraph / list of dot points summarising the piece you would like to write.

If it’s a good fit we’ll reach out to you directly.

Your written piece must be thoroughly fact-checked before it’s submitted. Queer Town is not responsible for any factual errors in your written piece.

Queer Town provides $30 to writers for each written piece approved and published. We understand this is a small fee, however it is important to us to recognise and acknowledge the labour of LGBTIQA+ creatives.

Queer Town reserves the right to publish, edit or reject any written piece that is submitted for review.

Written pieces are typically 500-800 words in length, however this will vary according to the editor’s discretion.

All submissions will pass through an editing process. Written pieces may be altered by editors in collaboration with writers.

A half-page summary of the piece you intend to write.

A short biography.

If your pitch is successful, we will reach out to you directly to clarify deadlines, word counts and payment.

Missing deadlines may result in your written piece being rejected.
