2025 IMPACT REPORT
our year
of impact
At the start of 2025, Queer Town was handed a curveball that had our team wondering what the rest of the year was going to look like.
The widely publicised “War on DEI”, fuelled by Trump-era politics and echoing long-standing capitalist campaigns that dehumanise workers in favour of short-term profitability (despite extensive research confirming the long-term financial and ethical value of investing in workplace diversity, equity and inclusion), raised a troubling question for us as a business: would our core service be deprioritised or abandoned altogether in Australian workplaces?
We watched with trepidation as large-scale, mainstream organisations publicly withdrew support for LGBTIQA+ initiatives and reduced their investment in DEI policies and practices. A mentor of mine even mused that having a name as unapologetic as “Queer Town” could become a liability in such a turbulent climate.
I found myself thinking back to 2017, when Queer Town was still just an exercise book filled with brainstorming lists, business model diagrams and poorly drawn logo concepts. I knew then that if I called the business something more palatable to the mainstream, like “Rainbow Town”, we would face fewer barriers when engaging workplaces and schools. But the word “queer” captured everything the organisation I was imagining stood for: reclamation, empowerment, social change, boldness and authenticity.
That tension became more tangible when a long-term partner, a well-known and highly respected national organisation, pulled the plug on a project we had spent months building together, without clear explanation, despite our efforts to salvage the meaningful work.
And yet, despite the sense that we were approaching a tipping point, the response from our other clients and partners was heartening. Not only did they continue to invest in LGBTIQA+ inclusion, multiple HR leaders echoed the sentiment that they planned to double down on embedding DEI into their cultures.
They stayed true to that commitment. In addition to the rest of our clients sticking with us, our reach grew by more than two-thirds compared to the previous year!
In Queer Town’s 2024 Impact Report, I named 2025 as our year of sustainability. Despite being tested early, I’m proud to say we took a big swing and achieved that goal.
One of the most significant ways we did so was through the launch and scale of our LGBTIQA+ 101 Digital Short Course. Built in consultation with HR leaders across Australia and piloted by organisations including GMHBA, the course was designed to increase access to crucial education, particularly for those living and working in regional and remote parts of the country, while enabling Queer Town to scale and sustain our impact through digital delivery.
Within months, the course had been rolled out across the AFL, the City of Melbourne, the Royal Children’s Hospital, councils, corporates and tech companies, with national government agencies now in conversation about broader implementation.
Our work with the AFL became another defining milestone in 2025. We were engaged to deliver Inclusive Storytelling workshops with the league’s digital teams, with a focus on how to safely and ethically share the story, should a male player choose to speak publicly about identifying beyond heterosexuality. Within weeks, that hypothetical became reality when Mitch Brown, former West Coast Eagles player, came forward and shared publicly that he identifies as bisexual.
Having the opportunity to work closely with Mitch and ensure he was supported, prepared and safe to share his story on AFL platforms has been a career highlight for our team (and I’m *very* excited to share that we have something special in the works with Mitch, coming to you in 2026 🫢).
Another major milestone was formalising our partnership with The Australian Ballet as their inaugural Impact Partner, guided by a two-year roadmap to further embed LGBTIQA+ inclusion across policies, processes and culture, with a particular focus on gender diversity.
This kind of longevity, now present across several relationships, contributes not only to the sustainability of our business but to the depth of the cultural impact we are able to achieve.
In 2026, we’re shifting our key focus to: Reach.
We are in motion to expand our work across Australia, reaching more regional and remote communities as well as new sectors. Our mission at QT is Ending LGBTIQA+ Discrimination Together, and we believe this should be a baseline standard in all workplaces, schools and communities, not an optional add-on when the budget allows.
LGBTIQA+ people make up at least 11% of the population, and our inclusion needs to be reflected accordingly in policies, processes, curriculums and culture alike.
To our champions, supporters and advocates: thank you. Queer Town’s growth has been driven by word-of-mouth, which means so much of our success is thanks to your support. And in the current climate, we need you more than ever.
So thank you and stick with us as we launch headfirst into 2026.
Yours Queerly,

A LETTER FROM A SUPPORTER
this impact is what it’s all about
Wow—just wow! I wanted to share my deepest gratitude for the incredible IDAHOBIT 2025 event. What an unforgettable and uplifting experience!
I attended with my 27-year-old daughter. We’ve long searched for queer spaces where she can feel safe, welcome, and truly herself—and this event gave us exactly that. It was heartwarming to see her walk away feeling supported, and uplifted.
Personally, I was excited to attend after seeing Archie speak online, and being there in person was even more powerful than I imagined. Not only did I feel the connection I hoped for, but it also reignited a fire in me—a fire that had been quietly smoldering, waiting for the right spark.
In my workplace, there’s been very little visible queer support or presence—no Pride groups, no initiatives. This year, thanks to a workplace scholarship, I started engaging with Queer Town to conduct workshops and change this narrative in my workplace. While the support has been meaningful, the resistance can sometimes feel louder. But today reminded me exactly why it matters. I left more determined than ever to be a visible ally and advocate for the LGBTIQA+ community at work and in the community.
The entire session was beautifully curated—the Q&A was heartfelt and raw, the music was perfectly chosen, and the musicians were not only talented but truly beautiful souls.
Thank you, Queer Town, for creating such a safe, empowering, and inspiring space. You’ve made a meaningful impact on both of us, and we are so grateful.
With heartfelt gratitude, Monique
